Read: Matthew 3:16-17 - “When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water and behold, the heavens were opened to Him and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, ‘This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’”

Reflect:

Jesus was obedient to the Father on every occasion. There was never a time Jesus disobeyed a request or command from the Father. His obedience gave pleasure to His Father. The Father’s request of Jesus to be baptized was seemingly a simple one, but obviously the request for Jesus to die on the cross was not. Have you ever equated your relationship with God and your obedience to Him? They should go hand-in-hand. Jesus obeyed the Father’s requests every time because Jesus had a relationship with the Father. The Father requested, and the Son obliged. Clyde Cranford said it like this, "The Father stands at the portals of the windows of heaven waiting to pour out blessings upon us but cannot because of our disobedience." Do you want to experience more of God personally? We can as we walk in obedience to Him and His Word. Obedience to God begins in and is an overflow of a love relationship with God.

Prayer for the Day:

Father, I want to obey You as Jesus obeyed You. I am Your child, and You are my God. I understand that my obedience to You is in direct proportion to my love for You. Thank You, Jesus, for Your example of Your relationship to the Father. I will obey You in all that I am and do. I want to experience more of You."
