It doesn't take us long to see how true Psalm 73:26 is in our lives. The bottom line is that we sin. We “miss the bullseye” at which we are aiming. Even our best intentions fail. All throughout Scripture, we read of the fallen state we cannot escape apart from a relationship with Jesus. Romans 3 tells us that we have all sinned and fallen short of God's standard. The Apostle Paul goes on in the seventh chapter of Romans to address the struggle we have with our flesh. But here's the good news today: there is hope! God is alive and at work, and He is supremely GOOD despite the fact that we are not. This is why the psalmist rejoices and proclaims, "The nearness of God is my good!" That's the only good we have! You may ask, "So, how does that affect my life today?" Great question! It impacts us as believers because we have the opportunity today to draw near to God! When we spend time in His Word, talk with Him in prayer, and spend time worshipping Jesus personally, we draw near to God. And James 4:8 says, "Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you." This is what we desperately need today! To be near to God...because the nearness of God is our ONLY good!
Prayer for the Day:
Lord, I cast my cares upon You. I acknowledge that the only thing good in my life is Christ and that I am absolutely dependent on You. I desire to draw near to You. Please give me the grace to listen to what You are speaking to my heart and to pursue You above everything else. Thank You for being so good to me and for Your unconditional love for me!
