Read: Acts 2:44-47 - “And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.”

Becoming a Jesus follower will cost a person something. When the believers in Jerusalem began following Jesus and His teachings, they were persecuted. Upon committing themselves to Christianity, their need for each other grew exponentially for encouragement, support, and even some physical needs of life. Luke wrote here in Acts 2 that "they had all things in common," and they "were sharing with anyone who might have need." In other words, they took care of each other as needs would arise. Ironically, the effect reached farther than was expected. Their love and care for each other resulted in having favor with all the people, and the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.

You may be thinking, “That is crazy!” Apart from Christ, you’re right. But as Jesus followers pursue God’s presence together in community, God moves in the hearts of His people in incredible ways to meet needs within the body of Christ and to expand His Kingdom locally and globally. So the question becomes this: are you connected in biblical community with other Jesus followers?

Prayer for the day:

Lord, use me to bless others as we pursue You together in community. Keep my eyes open to what You’re doing around me so that I can get involved in what You are doing. Thank you, Father, for this gracious invitation.
